How To Get Rid Of Guilt

guilt

Feeling guilty and want to stop?

Guilt is a negative emotion. When you carry guilt, you carry negativity.

Now we often feel guilty because of things we’ve done in the past, but how do you let go of guilt?

In this video I highlight some key factors behind getting rid of guilt.

Who Is This Video For?

  • If you carry guilt
  • If you’ve done something you regret in the past
  • If you’ve made a mistake and can’t forgive yourself
  • If you struggle to let go of the past

Video Recap

So what are the key factors behind letting go of guilt?

1. Understand The Root Cause

What is causing you to feel guilty? Once you can identify the root cause you can’t start to let go.

Typically guilt stems from a mistake or something we’ve done in the past. What thoughts come with the guilt you feel and trace it back to the root cause.

2. Take Responsibility

It’s time to own up to the mistake and take responsibility. So much guilt is carried with us for years because we fail to take responsibility and most important resolve the issue.

Is there something you can do right now to resolve an issue to help you let go of the guilt?

3. Forgive Yourself

We all make mistakes, forgive yourself and forgive others. I’ve made numerous mistakes in my past, so has everyone you look up too. Mistakes are normal, it’s not the mistakes we make that define us it’s how we deal with them.

Learn to forgive yourself for anything you’ve done in the past and focus solely on the present and your growth moving forward.

4. Let Go Of The Past

The past is the past, you have no control over what you’ve done or how anyone has reacted to what you’ve done. The only thing you should be concerned with right now is the present moment.

As soon as you let go of the past and understand anything you’ve done can’t be changed your feelings of guilt will start to reduce.

Focus on the present moment, understand you can’t change the past and correct the areas in which you feel guilty.

5. Change Your Perception

Guilt is an emotion, it’s a thought. You’re in full control of your thoughts and emotions so change the current perception.

Instead of feeling guilty for what you’ve done why not see it in a different light, and see it was something you can learn from.

Change the perception of the thing which is causing the guilt to something more positive.
